In England, Year 1 learns o'clock and half past, Year 2 quarter past and quarter to and the time to five minutes, and Year 3 the time to the minute, Roman numerals I to XII and the 24-hour clock (national curriculum). In the US, grade 1 reads hours and half hours, grade 2 the nearest five minutes and grade 3 the nearest minute (Common Core). The Step choice follows the same order.

Halfway to the next hour: at half past seven it sits between the 7 and the 8, and at quarter to eight three quarters of the way there. The clocks here move the hour hand with the minutes, as a real clock does, so the sheets never teach the hour hand sitting still.

On the 24-hour clock the afternoon hours are 13:00 to 24:00; England teaches it in Year 3. The ring prints 13 to 24 inside the hours, so 7 and 19 sit together, and with digits the key gives both readings, such as 7:30 / 19:30. It starts switched off.
