A big, clear countdown for the lesson screen, an exam room clock with start and finish times and extra time, and a stopwatch. Fullscreen, with a sound at the end, and nothing to sign up for.
In UK exams (JCQ), the clock in the room must show the actual time and a board must show the start and finish times; countdown and count-up clocks are not permitted. The Exam clock tab is built for exactly that, with the finish time for extra time. Use the Countdown for lessons, timed practice and mock papers at home. Rules differ between exam boards and countries, so check your centre's own instructions.
JCQ, Instructions for conducting examinations, sections 11.7 and 11.8
Give a student five minutes for a warm-up, ten for a worked example, and show the countdown on the shared screen so the pace is visible.
Set the length of the paper, add the extra time a student is entitled to, and use the countdown for the whole sitting.
A two-minute talk, a timed paragraph, a part of IELTS speaking: choose the time, press start and let the tone say when to stop.
Work for 25 minutes, rest for five. Set the time, keep the page open and the tone brings you back.
Run the lesson on the free online whiteboard and keep this timer open in another tab, or teach it live with your student in a Teamlilit classroom.
